JOSEPH MCGRANAGHAN

Pittsburgh%20Dec%202019109633_edited.jpg

GREETINGS

Call me Ishmael.

On second thought, call me Joe.  As that is, in fact, my name.  Or call me Joseph Patrick McGranaghan if you have a penchant for multi-syllabic Irish monikers.  Welcome to my website.  Sit down, sit down in this fine leather chair. Let me pour you an imaginary glass of Scotch.  There.  Now, allow me to regale you with a tale of pursued passions, stage and film credits, and artistic mission statements.  No, wait, don't go!  I'll just give you the basics: I'm a conservatory trained actor living in Philadelphia.  I'm interested in all aspects of the art form.  I've written and directed for the stage and screen and I work frequently as a teaching artist.  Now I leave you to poke around at your leisure.  Oh, I see you've finished your imaginary Scotch.  You're supposed to sip that, you know.  Small sips.  Ok, yes, here's your refill.  Enjoy.

HAMLET: WHAT DREAMS MAY COME AT THE BRICK

August 2018

Well, we did it.  We said we wanted to do it, and we did it.  My producing partner (and friend) Adam Thomas Smith and I   re-mounted and re-imagined Adam Mathias' brilliant adaptation of Hamlet. (Check out our behind the scenes video.) This non-linear, 4-actor, 90-minute adaptation of Western literature's most famous play had a fantastic run at The Brick theatre in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as a part of the Shakespeare in the Theatre Festival.  Check out the Broadway World preview for more details

NEW VOICES ALOUD READING

May 18, 2018

So so cool to be a part of the the first ever New Voices Aloud reading at the McCarter Theatre.  This event celebrates some of the best work created by student playwrights working with McCarter Teaching Artists throughout the last year (proud to say that a few of my own students had plays selected).  The plays are then read and performed by a company of professional actors.

Back on location in Philadelphia for more World War II spying.  Thanks to the amazing cast, crew and creatives on this film.  I had a blast playing in the rain on a perfectly rain-less day.

HIGH ON FILM PODCAST

February 23, 2018

Finally!  After six years of scheduling failures (on my part), I finally get to sit down with Chris Maxwell and Brad Davis and talk about my favorite Shakespearean film adaptation- Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet.  Give a listen.

BRUSHSTROKES

January 10, 2018

From a day of sub-zero exteriors, to the cozy confines of Jack's Firehouse in Philly- shooting this short was an adventure.  So good to be back in front of the camera and working with talented young filmmakers.  See the teaser trailer here.
